"Sel" value is different from number of characters selected

When a text document is in ANSI (WIN1250) format, the “Sel” information in the status panel shows a different value than the number of characters selected.
For example, selecting 9 characters “ąćęłńóśźż” causes “Sel” to show “4”.
Of course, this creates problems when analyzing the text and the length of its pieces, if the file encoded in eg WIN1250 is opened in ANSI (because it does not have to be open in UTF-8). -
which npp version (? menu->debug-info ) do you use and can you share an example file which shows this results?
