Dragged and dropped filenames not in recent files opened list

When I drag and drop a file name into Notepad++ (and thereby cause the file to be opened) the filename is not added to the recently opened file list. Why? Is this a bug? Is there a work around?

Something happened and this issue disappeared. I am sorry to report that I cannot identify what I did to cause reversion to expected behavior. Ah well.
