      Okay, this problem has been appearing since maybe two updates ago.

      At first it was when I was trying to save files, it sometimes saved as .txt even though I’m saving as .js file. I can’t reproduce this problem now, maybe it was fixed in the last update?

      Also, just now I was trying to open a .js file and it complained “txt file doesn’t exist, do you want to create it?”. So I changed the file format in the drop down list to .js and then I could open it. This is occuring evertime, and seems to be a new problem… I think… not sure as I never close Notepad++ and keep the files I’m working on open most of the time, so it’s rare for me to actually open files, at least from within Notepad++. Usually I open them by going through the explorer and right-click “Edit with Notepad++”.

      My Notepad++ Debug Info:
      Notepad++ v7.5.8 (32-bit)
      Build time : Jul 23 2018 - 02:03:53
      Path : C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe
      Admin mode : OFF
      Local Conf mode : OFF
      OS : Windows 10 (64-bit)
      Plugins : PluginManager.dll DSpellCheck.dll mimeTools.dll NppConverter.dll NppExport.dll

        You might try changing the toggle of Settings > Preferences > Default Directory > Use new style dialog
