I wish I could type in the file location in the "open file" dialog

Specifically, opening the hosts file. The “etc” folder is hidden, so there is no way to open the file via notepad++'s “open” dialog. Other programs allow you to type in the location - I wish notepad++ would allow this

Have a look at
(menu) Settings -> Preferences... -> Default Directory -> Use new style dialog. -
