      I just downloaded the latest version of Notepad++ Portable and it doesn’t work at all.

      Here is what I did:

      • do a fresh install of Notepad++ Portable
      • launch Notepad++
      • change some settings
      • install, update or remove a plugin with plugins admin
      • Notepad++ exits and restarts automatically
      • and now, all my settings and styler are gone, the plugins are the four default ones, and the plugins admin entry in the menu has disappeared

      I can reproduce the bug each time (delete app, then reinstall). I tried on two computers, same thing.

      Debug info :
      Notepad++ v7.6.3 (32-bit)
      Build time : Jan 27 2019 - 17:20:30
      Path : E:\PortableApps\Notepad++Portable\App\Notepad++\notepad++.exe
      Admin mode : ON
      Local Conf mode : ON
      OS : Windows 7 (64-bit)
      Plugins : DSpellCheck.dll mimeTools.dll NppConverter.dll NppExport.dll

      I had an old version (7.3.3) and decided to install the latest one. I knew I would have trouble to migrate all my customisation, but even a fresh install doesn’t work.

      Could someone help me explain what is happening?

        welcome to the notepad++ community, @Vivalzar

        you have probably downloaded your portable version from portableapps.com, which is known to currently have this issue.

        please only download the official portable version from >>> here <<<.

        • extract it to your desired folder
          (if this folder already contained a faulty portableapps release of notepad++, please delete the previous files first)
        • start this notepad++ by double clicking on notepad++.exe inside of your_path_to\npp.7.6.3.bin.
        • use the built in plugins admin to install, update or remove any plugin.
          it will work.

        note: it is always recommended to use the official portable version only, as it is created by the developers, implementing all their own recent code changes.
        all other 3rd party releases might miss some code changes when packaging, leading to unexpected behaviour.

        you can read more about the portableapps.com faulty 7.6.3 version >>> here <<<.

          Yes indeed, I’m using the portableapps.com version. With the official version, it works. The folder structure is a lot simpler too. It was easy to migrate all the settings.

          I will use this one from now on. I’ll miss the automatic update through the platform though.

          Thank you very much for your answer.
