Editor font too thin/light

I’m on a new Windows 10 laptop using an external 1920x1080 monitor as my primary display. When I use Notepad++, the font is too thin/light and parts of letters are even cut off. Here’s a screenshot:

You can see Windows text looks fine (top of the image), but the editor font is very difficult to read.When I use Notepad++ on my laptop’s internal monitor, it looks normal:
Nice font (interestingly, Snipping Tool took a much higher quality capture here)I’m using my external monitor’s recommended resolution settings.
How can I fix this? -
let me guess, laptop screen and external monitor do have different resolution?
Which npp version do you use? (see debug-info from last menu item)

Over the years, on the job, I have used a few different laptops with a few different external monitors and I have seen similar problems that required changing the monitor’ s settings or the laptop’s resolution. Unless you are not seeing the same problem with other applications (for example MS Word), then this is most likely a hardware issue and not a Notepad++ issue. If you are seeing this in other applications, the first thing that I would do is work on the monitor’s setting as changing the laptop’s resolution may have undesirable results when using the laptop’s screen.

Interestingly, today the fonts look fine. (Yes, I’d tried rebooting before…) This is a new computer so I’ll keep using Notepad++ for a bit longer and report back if this was just a temporary problem or not.
But to answer your questions:
My laptop’s internal monitor resolution is 3840 x 2160, while my external monitor’s resolution is 1920 x 1080.
I’m on Notepad++ v7.7.1 (64-bit)
My laptop only has USB-C ports, so I have a USB-C hub which has an HDMI port. I have an HDMI cable going from that hub to my monitor.
I have only noticed this problem with Notepad++, not other programs, so I don’t think it’s a hardware problem. To my knowledge, I’m using all of the recommended/default display settings for my devices.If I had to guess, the problem likely arises depending on what order I do things in or whether something is done on boot, etc. If I see the problem again and notice a pattern I’ll let the thread know.

there is a known issue open, maybe you suffering from the same.
