I am using the Search Find in Files function and getting no results. Started testing by searching for a word I know is in a .docx file with *.docx selected for Filters, Normal for Search Mode. I have the correct directory indicated in the Directory box, have selected In all sub-folders.

This is the result I get:
Search “and” (0 hits in 0 files)

What am I doing wrong. I used to be able to use this and it worked fine.

Notepad++ is a text editor. .docx files are not text files, they are binary files suitable for use with Microsoft Word (actually they are zip files). As such, any “text” searches done with Notepad++ on these files are “suspect”. My advice: Don’t do this…and if you do and it doesn’t work, don’t be upset about it.

This is almost exactly the same as the question that prompted the writing of this FAQ.
