Right clicking Host file and selecting edit with notepad++ returns error

The error is “Shell error (2) Is this the correct address” . Sorry computer it is the correct address. What is causing this error? Host file has no extension, so you all know that. I can open Notepad or Notepad++ and do an Open and navigate to the file and open it ok. It also says Extension error.
