    Hello,

I’m using Npp since years and that’s the first time I fall in that trouble…
As many time before, I open my “hosts” file (in “C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc”) and when I want to save it, it ask me to reload Npp in admin mode. I click “restart” and then it close then reopen Npp, as usual, but there… all my configs disapear ! It look like Npp after a fresh install :/.

Is there a way to get back to my previous config please ? Is it a known bug ? If yes, how to fix it, please ?

I had a similar issue once, some time ago.
For me the problem was, that the “original/first” notepad++ process
didn’t exit cleanly and another npp process was created.
Not sure if this is your case as well but as soon as I made sure
that no other npp process was running,
a newly create npp process behaved like expected.

        Hello @Ekopalypse !

        Thanks for your answer.
Perhaps this is the problem… but did you find any solution to get back your previous settings ? Mine has gone, and it seems that I can’t get them back :'(.

For me a new start of npp, after ensuring that no other npp process still runs, fixed it.

Can you post your debug-info? (available under the last menu item, the ? menu)
Maybe we can find a way to bring it back.

              Local Conf mode : OFF

give the information, that your configuration data is stored in %APPDATA%\notepad++

If you press CTRL+R or the windows key and paste this into the field and
press enter it will open an explorer window pointing to the need directory.

Can you check if there is a config.xml file and when it got created and modified?

@Ekopalypse I have a config.xml in “C:\Users\myUserName\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++” and it was last modified… the last time I have closed Npp (just right now) :'(. So I guess it erase my previous settings…

ok - so it looks like we can be sure that this is the right directory.
Now, depending on your windows setup you might be able to get a previous version of that file by right-clicking on that file an choose
properties and select tab previous versions.

If there is nothing, one other possible way to get an older version is to
use a software like recuva and do a deep search with the full appdata path.

                    AMAZING !

Thanks so much, I’ve restored a previous version (just before the fail), and all seems to be OK right now.
                    Thank you so much !
