      Hi,

I assume this is where bug reports go? Not 100% sure its Notepad++ but I’ve noticed this problem when you OPEN a file in Win10.

      1. Select FILE > Open
      2. The Win10 Open dialogue appears.
      3. At top right enter in any search/filter criteria (e.g. *.txt) and let Win10 search and filter the folder.
      4. Select a file to open.
      5. Now Select FILE > Open again.
      6. You’ll see the same search / filter criteria is still in effect.
      7. Pressing X to clear it doesn’t do anything and you have to navigate back to your folder via the root directory again to restore an unfiltered view.

      Regards

      Peter

No it’s not the correct location to report a possible bug. However you’ve come to the right place if you want others to verify your situation before filing a bug. How to file a bug is available at:

So you will need to elaborate some more. What is the version of Notepad++ (NPP) you are experiencing this issue in. The info we seek is shown under the ? menu, Debug Info. Copy that and paste it into your next post.

Also all to often these issues arise from a plugin that is used, or other outside environmental issue (Windows OS version etc). It might function correctly in a particular version of NPP but if the NPP version is updated the plugin might fail, or cause some side effect.

Also check the “Command Line Arguments” also under the ? menu. The latest version has -NoPlugin which allows NPP to load without any plugins interfering with it, older versions may have used -noPlugins. So try the appropriate one for your version and see if the issue still occurs.

I will say however that I ran through the steps you posted and did NOT find any issue. The search field did NOT retain a previous filter, however it will show previous filters as a dropdown once I started typing there.

Agree 100% with Terry. No issue.
