Odd margins around window
-
Notepad++ today just started adding odd margins around the document window. I can’t find out why this is happening or the setting to get rid of it. I’ve already uninstalled it and reinstalled without saving settings.
There are no plugins.
Also, clicking that box at the top causing it to just quit.
Anybody have any suggestions have to get it back to normal?
thanks.

This looks like the same problem as https://community.notepad-plus-plus.org/topic/20996/tabs-are-floating-after-upgrade-to-7-9-5
I’ve never seen this problem, and am using v7.9.5
Could you show us the ?-menu’s Debug Info?
Also, could you try an experiment of downloading the portable version and running it from an unzip directory, and see if the same thing occurs?

If you look at the steps that @Dan-Schreck took in https://community.notepad-plus-plus.org/post/64735, you might be able to solve your problem, too. Given that we don’t know the root cause, it’s hard to say. But it might help.

Thanks for the help. Before I saw your response, I just rebooted and that actually solved it. Not sure why that would be, and uninstalling/reinstalling wouldn’t, but if it happens again I’ll post again with more info.

Glad it’s fixed, even if we aren’t sure exactly what caused it.

I had the same symptoms and the same fix (rebooting) after reinstalling Notepad++ didn’t help.
Here is my Debug Info (from after the Notepad++ reinstall but before rebooting my laptop and thus fixing the problem). In case it helps anyone.

@gherson ,
If you are using Slack, or other teleconference/screen-sharing software – even if you don’t think it’s running right now, try looking in the Ctrl+Alt+Delete > Task Manager (or Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for all tasks on the details page, and stop any active Slack or similar processes, then restart Notepad++ and see if the problem persists; the developer believes that it is Slack (and similar apps) that are causing Windows to not display Notepad++ correctly.

Restarting Slack fixed the problem for me.
I sent an email to Slack about this behaviour, and added a comment to this GitHub issue: Random Grey areas appear on UI at startup #9717
