I get this error, and another one after that. I ignore those messages in order to install

Were you updating from an older Notepad++ internally (? > Update Notepad++), or were you running the installer manually / externally?
If run internally, I wonder if it didn’t fully end the original gup.exe execution before launching the installer. If manually, did you exit out of all instances of Notepad++ before starting?

Yes, likely the GUP.exe is in use. Try rebooting and run installer again.

First, I try to install to D:// and get that error. Then, I install to C:// and works.

@Vasile-Caraus Ensure you have enough permissions to write to the D: volume. Maybe, running installer as administrator could help. I don’t know whether it will have other consequences or not.
