Open .mlg extension?
-
I am trying to open a .mlg extension. This is a log file generated by IBM Personal Communication software. I’ve search all over but can only open that file via their proprietary log viewer. Has anyone ever opened a .mlg with Notepad++? My attempts have been unsuccessful.

Surely you can open this file in Notepad++.
Now, whether or not the file’s content has a meaningful visual representation when looking at it at the “character” level, well, that’s quite a different thing.I suppose the latter is what you’re asking about.

@alan-kilborn Yes, good clarification. I can open the file but the contents are jumbled.

contents are jumbled
Well, not to continue being pedantic, but the contents are not jumbled, the contents are shown exactly as they are (well, as best as Notepad++'s encoding autodetect can guess at, as it considers the bytes of the file as text).
But, your file is probably made up of binary (bad term) and not text data, and as Notepad++ is a text editor, it is attempting to show you how it is interpreting your data textually.
In short, Notepad++ is probably not the tool you want to use on your file, barring the unlikely event that someone reading knows of a plugin for exactly these types of files, that somehow turns the data into a textual representation that makes sense.

Thanks everyone. That’s a very helpful explanation. Looks like I’ll need to find another way to try and access the files.
