I have been using npp for many years for development so this is a really big problem for me as it slows me down considerably (losing about 1 hour every day due to this problem).

For about a week now, notepad++ freezes on startup. The caption bar just says “not responding”. Uninstalling it and reinstalling works for the first time (displays the change log) and then freezes on the next start.

I did remove all my custom settings to see if it helps - uninstalled and said to remove everything, then reinstalled. Same behavior. Is there any log file where I can see when / why it gets stuck?

PS: I am still running Windows 7 here, just don’t have the time or money to upgrade at the moment.

I think I found the culprit - I had network paths in my project panel pointing to a NAS drive that is currently unavailable (or maybe damaged). Whenever I activate my project panel I can work but when notepad++ restarts it “santity checks” all documents in the project list and I think it just takes ages because the timeout for each item is just too long and adds up to the app hanging.

While I find sanity checking of the paths useful, it would be really good if this task could be done in a separate thread that doesn’t block the UI.
