Notepad++ v8.1.5 (64-bit)
Build time : Sep 26 2021 - 15:23:23
Path : C:\Program Files\Notepad++\notepad++.exe
Command Line :
Admin mode : OFF
Local Conf mode : OFF
Cloud Config : OFF
OS Name : Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
OS Version : 2009
OS Build : 22000.778
Current ANSI codepage : 1252
Plugins : mimeTools.dll NppConverter.dll NppExport.dllYou really want all that on every post?
So, the whole interface looks different on my new pc. The icons are different and weird/non-standard and also the text is very light. I can’t find settings to change these features. I just want it to look like it used to. It is possible I haven’t updated it recently, but I still want the old interface. Would a screenshot of what I see be helpful? I don’t have any screen shot of the old, classic interface.
Thanks!

No, but if the question posted is (how to phrase it…) a bit strange, then it is often helpful to have the Debug Info.
In your case, having the Debug Info is instantly helpful because we can see you are using a “moderately old” Notepad++.the whole interface looks different on my new pc.

Would a screenshot of what I see be helpful?A screenshot where you call out what you think now looks different would definitely be helpful.
To me, Notepad++'s UI at-a-glance doesn’t look much different than when I started using it 7 or 8 years ago. I mean, if I look at the first version I used, without the latest version on-screen to compare it to, I’d be hard-pressed to tell you what is different.

Weird this is old. We just downloaded it. Here’s a screenshot. Thx.

The icons are different and weird/non-standard
Presumably you mean Settings > Preferences > General > Toolbar =
Standard Icons (small)
being the old andFluent UI: small
being the new, since the Fluent icon sets are relatively newalso the text is very light.
The default text colours have not changed at any point in my memory, especially for raw text.
The other thing to keep in mind, since you said it’s a new PC, is that different monitors display the same colours slightly differently – so something that looks bright on “old pc” may look “light” on “new pc”, even when the software doesn’t change at all.
I assume you don’t have access to the “old classic” (PC+NPP combo) to compare to, since you claimed you didn’t have a screenshot – thus, we cannot know what version you used to be on, nor can we compare screenshots to see if we agree that the colours are “lighter”.
And all text colours are customizable in the Settings > Style Configurator, like they have been for years.

On my monitor, the screenshot you showed does not look “light” to me: it looks like a normal shade for black text. This strengthens my hypothesis that your colour issue is caused by using a different monitor than your old PC.

OK, assuming the toolbar buttons are what is being referred to as “icons”…
Even in 8.1.5 the toolbar is not the Fluent icon set by default, so how did OP get to the “weird icons” without seeing the “assumingly non-weird icons” first (and thus being unable to remember how to change it back)?
Weird this is old. We just downloaded it.
Well, where did you download it from?
Seriously, if you just keep saying vague things, it is difficult to assist.

Thank you, that’s it. I want the standard icons!
-
Thank you. I’ll try to adjust the monitor.

Somebody helped me set up the new pc (it’s an old fashioned tower). He downloaded apps from a list I made. I don’t know exactly where or how he did it. The ‘weird icons’ were there and I doubt he fiddled around with those settings. I’m sure he accepted all the default suggestions on first install.
Thank you for your comments. Thank you all for speedy replies! I appreciate it. If I need more help I will try to be specific and not vague. :-)
