Monokai for Minimalist
-
Is there a way to change or modify the Default Dark Mode theme to Monokai in the Minimalist Portable version?

You can edit or overwrite any of the files you want after you have extracted it. If you want Default Dark Mode to look like Monokai, then all you have to do is copy the contents of the Monokai theme file into the Default Dark Mode theme file.
That way, any time you switch to Dark Mode, it will automatically switch to something that looks like Monokai. (Though why anyone, beyond their initial Dark Mode evaluation period, would ever be switching back and forth between light and dark is still a mystery to me.)
And if you’re not switching back and forth, then all you need to do is select Dark Mode once, then select the Monokai theme once you are in Dark Mode, and leave it like that. Monokai is selected, with no need to manually edit theme files at all.

oh, I see, maybe your problem is that the minimalist doesn’t have the Monokai.xml distributed with it – the point of the minimalist is that it downloads without extraneous files, and that was considered “extraneous”.
All you have to do is copy that file from another instance that does, or grab it from github directly
The same is true with any other file that you want to add to your minimalist: just grab it from a normal portable zip/7z, or download it directly from github. But at some point, it ceases to be minimalist, and one should ask oneself whether it might make more sense to just download the normal portable instead.

Thanks Peter for the info. It seems the themes are only associated by filename and so I just copy or rename Monokai to DefaultDarkMode.
still looking into Minimalist though, but will transition to the full portable soon.
