Recent File List not complete

I am using version v8.4.4. The Recent File List is NOT accurate/complete. I have no idea why the files listed are there and not the other files.
Shortening my list may make it easier to determine how this works. Anyone know what this is meant to show ? Most recent files open / saved / xxx ?
