    Hi everyone, how can I translate the new context menu entry in my language? With the old one I used to edit the registry entry but with this new one I can’t find a solution.

    Thanks

          @p_eldritch ,
          Where I don’t know exactly where, but you’ll need to do a search in the Registry Editor, I suspect, looking for that phrase. Then change it there. Unless someone else has a better faster way, that’s what I’d do, because that’s where it’s listed. If you search the documentation or these forums, you may find other references to the exact registry key location to find this information. When you want to customize, it takes more on your part. :-)

              @p_eldritch ,

              I believe the text for the new Windows 11 “Edit with Notepad++” menu entry is dependent on the language you chose when you were running the installer.

              If I’ve understood issue #13201 and the ini file it links to, there should be a file called explorerContextMenuEntryLocal.ini which will set that value depending on your selected language. I believe it will be in your localization directory, but I’m not 100% sure. (It might be in c:\program files\notepad++\localization\, or it might be in %appdata%\notepad++\localization\, or it might be somewhere near those, if I’ve not completely understood. Sorry, I don’t have Windows 11 available right now to verify for sure.)

              If you find that file, but there isn’t a translation in that file that matches the langauge you’ve chosen, you should be able to create one. After changing that file, I believe you would have to reboot, because that string is set when the DLL gets registered at each Windows startup.

              (But this is all assuming I’ve understood which version of the NppModernShell.dll he ended up using… I got confused during the v8.5.1 release candidates.)

              If this does work for you, I will update the manual to match this procedure (though it may be some time before the next user manual update is published to the website). Please make sure you let me know exactly where the file is. so that I can be clear.

                @PeterJones hi, first of all thanks for the reply. I used my language in the installation window and I can’t find the file you were talking about, so I created it pasting the entries in the link and nothing changed unfortunately

                  More information please. Which language do you use for your installation? where did you end up putting the file? what did you call the file? what were the contents of the file? did you reboot after adding that file? (Also, to make sure we know what version you are using, please share Notepad++ > ?-menu, Debug Info)

                      @p_eldritch ,

                      I would also try %appdata%\Notepad++\localization\explorerContextMenuEntryLocal.ini (where %appdata%\Notepad++ will expand to something like c:\users\p_eldritch\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++ – but I am less hopeful if it didn’t see that file in the installation localization directory.

                      And that file has the italian version, so there shouldn’t have been anything special required there.

                      It may be that when the developer reverted from 8.5.1-RC3 back to 8.5.1-RC2 before releasing v8.5.1, it may have lost the ability to be translated; or maybe it never was translatable, despite that request-for-translations; or maybe I’ve misunderstood the sequence of events necessary to get that translation to stick.

                      Maybe someone with more experience installing non-English versions of Notepad++ who have run the experiments on v8.5.1 might be able to give more help. Sorry.

                          I have the opposite problem on Win10, the context menu is now using the OS language (non-English) despite the setup being run in English. Notepad++ interface is in English, but not the context menu, and also it jumped from mid-menu to almost the top of the menu, which is a bit of a bummer after years of being used to commit that to muscle memory

                          I was able to edit the text inside the context menu DLL and that worked for the translation alone, but what’s the point… if it is intentional, it’s weird. If I select a different language for the setup it should use that across the board.

                          This may be related to the new implementation that fixes (or breaks) under Win11, and so I’ll count my blessings for now since it could be much worse apparently.
