Notepad++ Users Facing Session Loss Issue Due to SupportAssist from Dell
-
Since the release of v8.6.2, many Notepad++ users have encountered issues with lost sessions. Numerous bug reports have been submitted regarding this issue.
Thanks to @ner00 ’s investigation, we’ve identified the culprit: SupportAssist, a Dell utility.
During the cleanup process performed by SupportAssist (
C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent\SRE\SRE.exe), the%APPDATA%\Notepad++\session.xmlfile is erroneously deleted.Interestingly, most users experiencing this problem have confirmed that they indeed have SupportAssist installed.
Additionally, a bug report has been submitted by @ner00 .
Though a workaround of this issue has been implemented in v8.6.5, let’s remain hopeful that Dell will address this issue promptly. 🤞🏼

As I recently mentioned in the GitHub issue, it appears that Dell (or rather their subcontractor) fixed the issue of SupportAssist v4 deleting Notepad++
session.xml. As it stands, SupportAssist v4.0.3 seems to have been corrected to stop this behavior. -
