      @Bernard

      Read points 2 and/or 3 of “It’s Ambiguous” from HERE.
      Or…ask a question relating to what you’re trying to show, if something is still confusing.

        @Bernard, your 8.7.1 copy of Notepad++ reports it is already up to date as 8.7.1 is the most recent version that has been released to production for automatic downloads. Normally the next version would be 8.7.2. Issues were discovered during the beta testing of 8.7.2 that resulted in the developer never releasing 8.7.2 for production and also going through 8.7.3 to 8.7.4 which is now in beta test. If no issues are reported by those that download and install 8.7.4 manually then in roughly a week automatic downloads of 8.7.4 will enabled.

          The information you provided is fine, but I’m unsure why you took the time and effort to type it; isn’t it all explained in the FAQ entry (which links to the relevant user manual entry) I provided?

            @Alan-Kilborn, the OP’s question seemed clear enough to me. While they did not show their debug info page they did show About Notepad++'s dialog box which shows the version they are running. They then showed what happens when they tried to request an update to Notepad++, and finally showed that a more recent version is available on the web site.

            I did not think the debug info had any additional relevant information and so answered what I presumed the OP’s question is.

            The OP did miss that the response box when they do Update Notepad++ has a link, that, had they clicked, would have landed on the NPP user manual page about the Updater Dialog which offers that perhaps they are interested in the update process’ safety delay .

            I too also did not initially think about the link in the Update Notepad++ dialog box and was about to start thinking about a feature request to add a link, tried Update Notepad++ to see what the wording is, and see that the link is already implemented!

              @mkupper ,

              the OP’s question seemed clear enough to me. While they did not show their debug info …

              Maybe you didn’t notice which FAQ @Alan-Kilborn directed the OP to, because “it’s ambiguous” wasn’t meant to say that “the OP question was ambiguous” – “It’s Ambiguous” is one of the headers in the FAQ that was linked to.

              I am thinking that when Alan said, “It’s Ambiguous” and directed the OP to a FAQ that you thought he was linking to the “request for more information, especially debug info” FAQ. But he actually linked to the FAQ: Why Can’t I Just Say “Most Recent Version”, which explains in detail about why the Update Notepad++ doesn’t find v8.7.4 right now, using much the same language that you used in your reply.

              update 1: Yes, I admit that “Most Recent Version” FAQ also asks for Debug Info, but the “It’s Ambiguous” section can double as the answer to the FAQ “why does Notepad++ say there’s no newer version, when the downloads page clearly shows a newer version”.
              I guess I could make the FAQ more explicit in that regard.

              update 2: I have now tried to make the FAQ more clear that it’s answering two questions that both have the same root description, even though they seem, on the surface, unrelated.
