Instant crash at launch
-
Help, no matter how many time I wipe and reinstall (now at v. 6.8.3), nor whether I launch as user or admin, a window never appears. Process Hacker/manager shows a process named “notepad++.exe” came into existence and ended right away,. Win 8.1 64bit. I had manually cleared %AppData%\Roaming\Notepad++ and remnants under C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++ (including old *.xml , plugins, etc.), Take Ownership of those dirs, but nothing seemed to matter before retrying.

This has been going on for about 2-3 month now, not sure. My Windows OS is pretty new and clean…I am not about to muck with drivers, reinstalling it/snapshot rollback, etc. -
At my wit’s end, I exhaustively moved aside files one by one in C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++
to see was preventing startup (without even an error box).
Finally, moving plugins/NppExternalLexers.dll into the disabled folder made the program reappear, with old session, styles and all! -
I confirm this issue.
Today I have installed PowerShell Lexer thru Plugin Manager and after restart Notepad++ could not launch.
Investigating the “plugin” folder (inside the Notepadd++ installation) I found (by observing Date Installed/Modified ) this NppExternalLexers.dll file. After moving it to the “disabled” folder Notepad++ can launch without any problem. -
@Levan-Kekelidze
did the same right now and don’t have the problem.

I know it is an old post, but in my case the offending plugin was NppFTP. Moving it to the “disabled” folder did the job.
If I try to install it again, the same behaviour occurs: crash on start-up.
As I don’t use it, I’ll leave it as disabled.I hope it is useful for someone.

nppftp with which version of n++? Current 7.3.1? Could you add the debug info like above about the used vesions and the installed plugins apart from nppftp.
