Issue with File extensions no longer being assigned automatically.

I am a Professor and I use notepad++ in my classes to teach HTML. Until recently, I was able to set the Language as HTML and when a student saves the .html extension would be automatically be assigned to the file.
However as of the most recent update, the.html extension is no longer given automatically. It was a great feature, and I cannot figure out what has changed. Any help would be great.

For now, to solve the problem, we reverted back to version 6.8.3

newest version 6.8.7 solves this issue.
