Strange font in tabs

Where does the font come from that is displayed in the tabs? The reason I ask is that I have a new Win 10 computer, and the appearance is strange.
The “about” window does something similar
notepad++ about window screenshotI think it’s a mis-configured computer, since similar things are showing up in some other applications. Knowing what np++ is doing might help me track down the problem
