File is too big to be opened by Notepad++...
-
Hi all!
Running 6.9.2 and am hitting this problem that I really haven’t hit before.I finally closed everything out, rebooted my pc, and brought up my zip file with 2 files in it.
The file sizes are 348,295 and 365,253 kb each.
I can open either file separately, but not both together in the same instance.
I tried extracting the files to a folder and opening them from there, but hit the same issue.I have opened multiple (smaller) files in single instances, but this one has me stumped.
- Is there some size restriction in NP++ ?
- list itemIf so, can that can be changed to allow these files to be opened together in the same instance?
- list itemIf this is a restriction, where is it documented?
- list itemIf not, am I hitting a bug?
- list itemIf so, is it fixed in version 7?
Thanks!

Is there some size restriction in NP++ ?
Yes. In the coming weeks a 64bit of Notepad++ will be released that in theory won’t have this restriction.
If so, can that can be changed to allow these files to be opened together in the same instance?
Not by a setting or anything. It is a 32bit application (currently) so it can’t use all of the available memory.
If this is a restriction, where is it documented?
There is not an easy way to say, “files larger than X can’t be opened”. Yes it does depend on file size but also syntax, other files opened, and other settings that use up memory.
If so, is it fixed in version 7?
v7 will have the 64bit executable available. But keep in mind that just because it can open it doesn’t mean you won’t start seeing performance issues.

Sweet! Thanks for the quick response.
Usually the files are smaller, bot sometimes people are lazy and squish too much into one file and think nothing of it.
Will download V7 asap and give it a try…
Best to all (and love NP++)
