Does anyone know how to have a .cmh file open and retain columns and format?

I have download a file from a business website that should open into a txt file and retain its format for columns, etc. Instead, it opens as a string of text data and I have no idea where the column breaks are. Any help would be appreciated. I have exhausted their IT department’s answers and help and they stated it must be on my end. The file is first opened in WinZip, and then opens in Notepad, but the formatting features are not retained.
