New to Notepad++, wondering why it has taken me so long to discover this awesome tool! I am using it to edit two similar, but different, xml files. Both files have all the same structure, but the data is different, and I need to modify some of the data points in File #2 based on the values of the data in File #1.

I can line up the files side-by-side, and synchronize the scrolling so that both files are always in the same place. When I click in the field of File #2 to make an edit, the entire line highlights - what I would love is to be able to have the same line highlight in File #1, to make it easier to refer to the same field I am modifying in that file. Just like synchronized scrolling, but with line highlights.

Is this do-able? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

If you are using version 7.2, there’s a feature to extend the Smart Highlighting feature (bright green highlighting) across the first and second views. If the lines you wish were highlighted in both views contain some semi-unique words, perhaps turning on the Smart Highlighting across views feature (Settings -> Preferences -> Highlighting) and then double-clicking a word in one of the views would get you something workable?

Thanks for the idea Scott. I’ve played around with it - unfortunately I don’t think it’s going to do what I want, although I can see that coming in handy for another project! Appreciate the response.
