Bug: Vertical Edge Settings > Number of columns is off by one
-
Settings > Preferences > Editing > Vertical Edge Settings > Number of columns: 80
Find/type a line longer than 80 columns.
Move the blinking cursor to Col: 80 as indicated in the Status line at the bottom of Notepad++.
The Vertical Edge Line is one column to the right of the cursor at Col: 80. I expected the Vertical Edge Line to be with the blinking cursor.

Well, I guess it is open to interpretation, but for me I’d say there is no bug. I have mine set to 80 and if I form a selection (starting from the left edge of the window) so that the grey (selection) highlighting just touches the vertical edge line, I have 80 characters in my selection. This is what I expect.

Okay. It is not a bug.
Vertical Edge Settings dialog box is “Number of columns : 79” instead of “Vertical edge column: 80” so I would have to input 79 instead of 80. I expected them to all be visibly at the same location: the vertical edge line, the cursor location, and the Status bar’s “Col: 80” at the bottom. I was also expecting word wrap to happen at the vertical edge, but it actually happens at the right edge of the edit window. It’s not a big deal. It’s still a great editor.

no, you still have to set 80 if you want to add 80 chars into a line.
The reason why it shows 81 in statusbar is that cursor has already past column 80.
The edge cannot be at column 80 as it needs to allow upto 80 chars it is needed to,
visually, set it to 81.Cheers
