Double-Click single Word selection problem

When I double-click to select a word, it is selecting everything between symbols. If I have a quoted string, it highlights from one quote to the other. Can someone help me get this reset somehow? I have uninstalled and re-installed to try and reset the settings and that was unsuccessful.
