Where did my last session go?
-
Greetings. When I started up NP++ a little while ago, it asked if I wanted to update, and I clicked on “Yes”. After it installed and started, all of the windows I had open before were gone. I use some tabs as scratch pads, not saving them as named files. Whenever I would start NP++, it would open up all of the tabs from the last session. ALL of them, including the unnamed tabs.
After the upgrade, the only tab there was the change log. Where did my other tabs go? Previous updates did not blow away my previous session. I went into Preferences to find where NP++ saved sessions, but trying to open them just gave me a “Session File is either corrupted or not valid.” Have I just lost my last session and all of the scratch tabs I had?
I’ll be extremely ticked if this update made me lose all of my previous work.

if the files are still there, just open it as any other file, don’t try to load as a session file.

I can go to my documents folder and open up the saved (named) tabs, but what about the unnamed tabs? Or is that what the “new x@date_number” files are?
(I’ve been reluctant to explore too much with NP++, not wanting to add more problems (and lose any chance of recovery).
Thanks.

Correct, depending what exactly was configured you either have one or multiple versions of the file. If verbose backup was configured you should see multiple “new x” file with different timestamps but all of those files are, normally, just text files which can be dragged into npp.

Wonderful! That’s great news, thank you! I am a little confused as to why this upgrade, as opposed to previous updates, didn’t restore the whole session, but as long as I have my data…
Thank you very much for your help, and for how quickly you responded.

Hard to tell, could it be that you changed how npp should be installed?
Changing from %APPDATA% to local installation? Could be an installation issue as well.Thank you very much for your help, and for how quickly you responded.
Your welcome.
