    when I do a Search->Find (CNTL-F), specify a text string, and if fails, a long and loud bell sounds. Does anybody know how to turn that off? Thanks, Dave Naden

      @Dave-Naden

      There is currently no way to turn that off, short of modifying and rebuilding the source code. Here’ s the “offending” area:

      FindReplaceDialog.cpp:

      void FindReplaceDlg::setStatusbarMessage(const generic_string & msg, FindStatus staus)
      {
          if (staus == FSNotFound)
          {
              ::MessageBeep(0xFFFFFFFF);

      Interestingly, the MSDN documentation for this calls 0xFFFFFFFF a “simple beep”, not a “long and loud bell”.

          Fwiw, I get a short beep, which maps to what Win10 Settings -> Sound -> Sounds shows as “Default Beep”. Not a Windows programmer, so I don’t know if that is the same as “simple beep”.
