I experienced notepad pus (npp++) crash while saving… having several modules loaded in different tabs… awfully, I had to close npp, knowing that ‘session’ manager will get my work from the either last saved or from backup area… well I did open again npp and my program said “It seems that was modified by another program… or so, do you want to reload…?” — my error I said “Yes”, did not realized that the reload was the blanked-out one, and in that exercise I lost the one from the backup…!!! hours/weeks of work gone!
nothing in the back up location C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++\backup
geee…!!! terrible… I do not know how to recover my work…. any suggestion welcome… thanks

      Do you have Settings/Preferences/Backup set?
If so, cross your fingers and browse to the location in File Explorer.
If you have not set it, then I can only say:
Backup, Backup, Backup, meaning your time spent on the files is not worth a backup.

i had only the default back up set
        C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++\backup
crashed file is not present in that location
the second option is set none by default by the app
is there any tool or software that can help
any old version of the crashed file is also fine
        now it shows 0 KB
        debug info

I don’t use the backup switch in NP++ because I fear getting into exactly the sort of situation that the OP has encountered.

Because I am a software developer, backups are VERY important to me!

I have two ways of backing up files:

I wrote a tiny program called preserve that copies a file (supplied as argument) to a special directory using a numbering scheme. This lets me save what I am working on frequently without any risk that one backup will wipe out the previous one (because the files will be numbered differently).

However, about once a week I also use EaseUS Todo Backup to create a compressed image of my C drive on a portable drive. The beauty of this software is that you can use the compressed image to restore your entire machine, but you can also connect the image as a read-only drive to recover individual drives or folders! Several images will fit on one decent sized portable drive.

Because I am neurotic, I also copy the compressed image on to a friend’s machine.

          David

not sure what the developers are thinking
this is a well know issue
set the default location for both options under Settings/Preferences/Backup
better to switch to some other editor
