Notepad++ 7.5.1 forgetting previously opened files and unsaved tabs
-
Hi,
I’ve been using and recommending Notepad++ for a few years, and have found it always very, very reliable. However, in the last few weeks I have been surprised a few times with Notepad++ starting “fresh” without the files and tabs I left opened in the previous session. To be fair, this does not happen always, and never happened before on this same computer and Windows installation, but still it is annoying when you start to question the reliability of a tool you trust and recommend.
I have the August 32bit version installed on Windows 10 Creators Update x64 on a i5 Surface Pro 3.
Preferences are set to remember the current session and session snapshot enabled, there are no error messages or dialogs that I notice. I have the JsTool, Converter, MIME tools, NppExport and XML tools plugins installed.
Looking at the Event Log Viewer can’t find any errors coming from Notepad++. Is there any log that I can analyze or mode that I can set to try to figure why is this happening?
Thanks,
Alberto -
could it be that your setup uses network drives for your config files?
Or do you use tools like CCleaner which, from time to time, deletes npp config files?Cheers

Hi Claudia, thanks for your reply.
I don’t use CCleaner or any similar tool and my config files are stored on the default locations.Alberto

Hi Alberto,
hard to tell what the issue might be. It doesn’t look like a general problem, otherwise
I would expect more posts about it.I assume the only thing you can do at the moment is to monitor the session.xml file to see
if it is changed accordingly or if it becomes corrupted somehow.Cheers

hey alberto/Claudia:
Just had a similar issue, where NP++ would NOT keep closed a file I had closed before, nor would it keep the settings I wanted
and kept reopening past files I had closed. Looked in NP folder for session.xml & just changed the name ( added 1 to end of name before extension ) and seemed to re-create it, with the settings I wanted NP++ to have.
