'Not Responding' issue on Windows 7 when trying to delete a large section of text

I have a ~6MB HTML file that I am trying to edit in Notepad++ 7.3.3. When I select a large segment of the text that I want to delete and then hit the Backspace or Delete key, the application hangs on me indefinitely, and ‘Not Responding’ appears in the title bar of the document. I find I have to force quit the application since I don’t know if it will ever respond. Is there any way to fix this issue?
