problem error file too big to be opened
-
Maybe even Claudia is not what she appears to be
Alan, who knows - you might be wrong or right - I guess we will never find out
unless you find some leaked nude pictures at some celebrities websites :-DCheers
Claudia -
my message is very clear, and I am a man
.thank you -
sorry but it isn’t very clear because if, for example, you try to edit a 10GB file
you would immediately get a response that this won’t work and it is very unlikely
that there will be a solution in the near future.
BUT if you try to edit a 100MB file the answers would be different with some additional questions.Cheers
Claudia -
ok, you want some detail, my file size 3 GB
-
sorry but scintilla has, afaik, a 2 GB limit.
But this doesn’t mean that you can open a 2 GB file as scintilla internally
needs to allocate more bytes depending which lexer is used and if folding is active
and …
In addition the limit happens also if you have multiple big files you want to open
and which might have a total of 2 GB.Cheers

What about 64bit (https://notepad-plus-plus.org/repository/7.x/7.5.4/npp.7.5.4.Installer.x64.exe)? I guess @Fun-Fun you are using the 32bit version of N++.
-
3GB is a very big file, I’ve managed to open files that big in Notepad++ 64bits as @chcg says. But it might not be as fast as you would expect.
For files that big another editor might be useful (try VIM or something like that)
-
You were able to load a 3 GB file with notepad x64 version?
Afaik, there is this 2 GB internal scintilla limit how did you go around this?Cheers
Claudia -
I used the 32-bit version and 64-bit version of N ++.
the problem remains the same. -
I don’t know that it is a “problem” to not be able to open a 3GB file in Notepad++…well, maybe except for you. Notepad++, as others have stated, doesn’t have opening files that large in its design criterion.
-
OK - I did a test and was able to open a file with 1,9 GB but not more (7.5.4 x64)
So I think the 2 GB limit is still in place. (Must be as npp hasn’t updated scintilla recently anyway)Cheers

Did some further testing, pure ascii text file 2,146GB,
with 1MB more I do get the limit error.Cheers
