Format Lines or Words

Very simple question. Can I format text? I want to format a word to it bold. I added underline as a tag because I am hoping that all formatting is done in a similar or identical way for all styles.

For these functions you want a Word Processor not a Text Editor.
What you have in Notepad++ is a Text Editor.
