      Hi, @claudia-frank, @scott-sumner, @peterjones, and All,

Ah, brilliant idea Claudia, indeed !! It will be easier to everyone to quickly get some basic information on Notepad++ ;-)) And thanks to you and Peter, for your first contributions to this new project !

So, I intend, myself, to add such a post, relative to the regex documentation. Now, as these new kind of post ( that I would call a “N++ Community” post ! ), two main questions comes to my mind :

      • What should be the general appearance of these posts ?

      • How to update these posts, except the obvious way of adding your own post(s) ?

Regarding the first point, I, personally, do an intensive use of the bold style, in my posts, that some people may not feel very elegant ! So, I suppose that I should switch to the italics style of writing, which is more neutral than the bold one !

Regarding the second point, I’m thinking about two solutions, for updating my own future posts, on the Blog section :

      • If you’re already a moderator of our site, I allow you to add/delete data or complete my posts, to improve the global comprehension of an article ! And, particularly, if it remains some technical mistakes/ approximations or if I used bad English/American expressions, much too far from fluent language !

      • If you’re are a regular user, just send me an e-mail and I will correct/add/delete the concerned parts of the post(s), as soon as possible !

For instance, I do think that the present list of regex sites, in my usual regex documentation adding, could be increased ;-))

So, before adding my first post to the FAQ Desk, what’s your feelings about it ?

      Cheers,

      guy038

        Hi Guy,

So, I intend, myself, to add such a post, relative to the regex documentation.

        very much appreciated :-)

What should be the general appearance of these posts ?

To be honest, I think diversity is a benefit - I wouldn’t try to change the style someone is writing.
If rules are to strict, then it might be that one doesn’t post content just because of that.
I feel comfortable if a blog post would use the FAQ Desk prefix in the title but on the
other side it is the blog section so …

How to update these posts, except the obvious way of adding your own post(s) ?

That is indeed an issue because what you write today might be outdated tomorrow and then
blog post could become an source of confusion. Not sure how to handle this - maybe allowing
        editing afterwards?

One question from me - as you are a moderator, could you move the non-blog posts to,
        let’s say general section? :-)

        Cheers
        Claudia

I second what @Claudia-Frank said. It would be silly to change your own individual style of writing for this purpose.

How to update these posts, except the obvious way of adding your own post(s) ?

It’s my feeling that the FAQ Desk postings should not get a long series of follow-up posts. It would make it harder to read in order to get correct information out. If the base posting is wrong in some aspect, it should simply be corrected by a moderator.

However, moderator power is limited to the chosen few. You happen to be one. And that’s fine with me. :-)

I have a correction to one of the FAQ Desk postings already; I’ll email you. :-D

Maybe you just signed up for a lot of new work!

            @guy038,

I dislike rigid rules for style, so I’m definitely not going to enforce style, other than possibly “FAQ Desk” prefix.

I agree that emailing you (or other moderator) to make a change to an existing post makes more sense than endless followups.

              Hi @claudia-frank, @peterjones, @scott-sumner and All,

              Claudia, you said :

              let’s say general section? :-)

Well, I don’t think I’m able to move a thread from one section to another one ! However, if a thread is composed of a single post, I could, may be, delete it, in the Blog section and re-create it in an other section ? Of course, we would need to ask the OP, in order to do such a move !

But, why about asking @don-ho to create a new general section, called References, with the hope that the already FAQ Desk posts could be moved in that new section ? This would be the neat solution, won’t it be ?!

              Best Regards,

              guy038

                  Hi, @claudia-frank, @peterjones, @scott-sumner and All,

I sent an e-mail to @don-ho, four hours ago, about my/our suggestion ;-) So, just wait and see … !!

                  Cheers,

                    Hello, @Don-ho, @claudia-frank, @peterjones, @scott-sumner and All

I’m very pleased to announce that Don Ho took my suggestion, in consideration :-)) You have certainly noticed, by now, the new FAQ section, on our Node BB forum ;-))

So, many thanks, Don for that initiative ! Have you some spare time to move the 8 FAQ Desk: threads, in the new FAQ section, with their original order ? Just know that I don’t mind doing this task, instead !

If so, I will use this method :

                    • I will backup, first, all these posts, on my laptop ( Always do backups !! )

                    • Then I will create new posts, in the FAQ section, and paste the contents of each post, respecting their initial order

                    • Once this part done, I will delete these posts, in the Blog section ( Only moderators will be able to still see these delete posts, in the Blog section, afterwards ! )

                    Let me know …

                    Cheers,

                    guy038

                      Hi, @claudia-frank, @peterjones, @scott-sumner, @dail, @mapje71, @jim-dailey,

By e-mail, I request @don-ho to allow you to fill up the FAQ section of our Node BB site, as Don, initially, just gave me rights to do so :-))

Please, let me a couple of hours, for moving the existing Fat Desk: posts to the new FAQ section ! Presently, in France, it’s 5h30 am, about ( I’m was sleeping, with TV on ! ) So…, I’m still sleepy !

                      Cheers,

                      guy038

                          Hi, @claudia-frank, @peterjones, @scott-sumner, @dail, @mapje71, @jim-dailey,

Done ! It was easier, than I first thought, to move these FAQ Desk: posts in the new FAQ section. A move topic command was available ! So, no need to save contents and re-create these posts ;-))

I also, verified that your previous links to any FAQ Desk: post, has been preserved by the “move”. So, everything is fine !

We just have, now, to go on filling up that new FAQ section, with pertinent posts !

                          Best Regards,

                          guy038
