Export Notepad++ to a new computer
-
I need help. Just got myself a new laptop. Have Notepad++ on my other laptop with all my web pages. How do I go about exporting/transferring everything to the new laptop so I can continue working. Really appreciate any help.

If both laptops are on the same network, you should be able to share the old laptop’s harddrive and access it from the new laptop in the normal Windows explorer folders, and easily copy files from the old to the new. But more detailed answers – regarding networking, how to share files, and copying from one computer to another – aren’t really topics for this forum.
Assuming you know how to copy the files: If you want to make sure you have the same Notepad++ configuration, you can copy your
%AppData%\Notepad++
directory from the old to the new (FAQ Desk: What Is %Appdata% for more about how to access%Appdata%
), and you’ll probably also want to make sure that you have all the same plugins, so look at the directory that hasnotepad++.exe
, and see what’s in thePlugins
subdirectory. -
Also, if you install notepad++ using the “portable” option (at least I think that is what it is called), then most (perhaps all) your files will be somewhere within the directory where you install. Then you can simply zip up that directory and unzip it on some other computer.
I’ve been sharing my notepad++ setup with co-workers this way for some time now. They get all my plug-ins, various XML configuration files, user-defined languages etc. as if they were part of notepad++.
