Program not opening "txt" files made in another program, or made in another version of Notepad++

I created a directory called “saved files” and pasted “.txt” files made on an earlier version of the Program and in another text editor. When I try to open these files, they do not show up as even existing. In fact, the "saved files directory does not show up. I next copied the text files to the programs root file, but again, when I clicked “open”, none of these files showed up when I navigated to the root directory.
i have the Program on another computer, and I did not encounter the same problem.
