You’ve a lot of reasons to hate Notepad++

      For its political positions
      For its moral higher ground
      For its new Plugins Admin
For its good taste humour in its Easter eggs
      For its “Windows only” support
      …

So say fuck to Notepad++ here and only here.

I just want to say “F*CK to Notepad++” for its out-of-date Wiki, especially http://docs.notepad-plus-plus.org/index.php/Regular_Expressions as mentioned here.

                BTW, I like this F Notepad++ category, @donho !

“Otherwise, you update from v7.5.9 or version older than v7.5.9:
Find the name of plugin you want to migrate in %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Notepad++\plugins\myAwesomePlugin.dll (or %PROGRAMFILES%\Notepad++\plugins\myAwesomePlugin.dll, according the achetecture of your Notepad++).
go to %PROGRAMDATA%\Notepad++\plugins\ to create myAwesomePlugin folder.
move the plungin myAwesomePlugin.dll from %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Notepad++\plugins\ to %PROGRAMDATA%\Notepad++\plugins\myAwesomePlugin”

А че нельзя было сделать, чтобы N++ сам создавал папочки и переносил плагины?!

As MSI setup author I have only troubles now.

                    • If auto-update files are not installed the PluginAdmin does not load. So nobody can install “per User” plugins.
                    • NPP auto-update cannot disabled per machine.
                    • Per user plugins cannot enabled in setup any longer. Why the hell?

                    I need:

                    • Notepad++ auto-update disabled (per Machine). A config.xml in notepad.exe folder seems not working (tested).
                    • PluginAdmin is required
                    • PluginAdmin with Automatic Update
                    • Plugins need to be installed “per User” to %APPDATA% (and not to %ProgramData% where users have no access what causes an UAC)
                    • Need to be able to disable automatic-updates for specific plugins. e.g. AutoUpdate=0 in global config .ini files.

Please repair Notepad++ ASAP so it can be used in Enterprise environments.

                      • Plugins do not install per architecture. That means you cannot run x86 and x64 on same machine. Per user plugins currently colides. The folder structure need to be adjusted to have “%APPDATA%\Notepad++\x86” and “%APPDATA%\Notepad++\x64” folders.

Notepad++ is broken for enterprise use.

As Admin for severall Thousand noob People in an secure Environment you need to Install Notepad++ in an way where no User can Change anything i dont allow. But Notepad++ gives me no way to Control the use of Plugins or any kind of central provided Configuration.

In an secure Environmet Users should never be apple to Install any Plugin or other Kind of unproved Software.

With tricks like delete the updater Folder we worked so far. But since change of the plugin (why the hell should a user have the right to install any byte of code) its broken for us. We will not update and will search for an other product on mid term.

if you install version 7.6.2 from here: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.6.2.html
                          you’ve got following options:

                          • if you install it with plugins admin, the user will not be able to install or remove plugins without elevated administrator rights, so it will ask for administrator credentials when trying to change or update any plugins

                          • if you install it without plugins admin, you can deploy your centrally prepared plugins folder to %PROGRAMDATA%\Notepad++\plugins and set the folder permissions to read only

In an secure Environmet Users should never be >>>apple<<< to Install any Plugin or other Kind of unproved Software.

                          very nice typo ;-) i like 🍏👍

                            I rather agree with you.

To call something “Notepad++ 7.6.2 Gilet Jaune Edition” or “Notepad++ 6.7.4 - Je suis Charlie edition” seems to me just another form of “advertising”… And remember Plugin Manager…advertisements are bad.

Imagine living in a world where people think they need the political opinions from the products they use. I mean how can you know what to support or believe in until your favorite BBQ sauce tells you? We’re somewhere between 1984 and Idiocracy and most likely the latter if you believe this statement is in support of or against any political view.

Really sucks that notepad mix politics and software development.
A software is not a medium to push your political agenda/opinion.

Notepad++ is a free application and its owners are free to do whatever they want.
If they want to do ads they can and should do so to cover their expenses since its users are poor and ungrateful folks who can’t even donate adequately.

If Notepad++ authors want to express their political views, they have full rights to do so as well and it’s a good and brave thing to do.

If you don’t get involved in politics, you are responsible for the consequences of your inaction.

                                          Plugin manager was awesome.

Right. There is no doubt that the old plugin manager was awesome.

Right now we have useless and ugly plugin admin. Pathetic!

It is true that, right now plugin admin is ugly and pathetic. But it is not useless. Day by day it is becoming better and over the period of time, it will also be awesome.

So instead of saying ugly and pathetic in one go, reporting concerns or suggestions if any will be very helpful for the community.
