Save As Command
-
- After editing of a file, and when I want the file to be “SAVE AS”, Is there a way to have ‘all files’ (.) come up than .txt? How do I set that as a preference?
-
if you want to “save as” a file and always have all types
(*.*)as the file type selector, regardless of if it is a new file or if it already had any extension, you can set it here:settings > preferences > default directory
select the option “use new style save dialog (without file extension feature)” as seen in this screenshot:
from now on you will have
*.*as the default type selector as seen in the screenshot below:

I guess you forgot this thread you initiated “2 years ago” or so: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/13739/save-file

Ha–neither one. I just clicked his avatar (which looks a lot like my avatar – :-P ) to get a quick look at what he posted previously – imagine my surprise to see the same question. [And the same markdown error:
(.)showing instead of(*.*)]I thought you also did this with posters you don’t immediately recognize – so you can “welcome them to the community” if they are brand-new. :)

yes, i just do it to ease possible tensions of first time visitors by providing a polite welcome.
i always just look at their counter, and if it was more than 1, i never took the time to check the previous posts before … unless i had a reason to do so, eg. the last post was either very funny, very smart or very rude.

a combination of different reasons and different points of view often leads to a more complete and better result ;-)

Dear Alan and Meta,
Thanks so much for the information… You guys are a rough unforgiving group, Yes Alan, I do, and did remember that I posted the question two years ago, but somehow the setting became un-set. I did not know where to look for the prior posting, another shortcoming at my end.
At that time, back than, when my original post was put in the que, I remember clearly that I was nearly run out of town for posting my question in a highly inappropriate area… Translate that: In the wrong category. (You can look that up too.)
Guilty as charged. Again thanks, but maybe you guys could lighten up a bit.
Happy New Year all. -
thanks for the thanks ;-)
if any specific answer(s) were helpful, please don’t hesitate to also give it/them an upvoteYou guys are a rough unforgiving group
it depends on who is online first, as you can see in my detailed direct response to you.
i didn’t even look up if you already asked the same question, even if i had a kind of deja vu.maybe you guys could lighten up a bit.
most of us are, including defending your question (i quote myself: maybe it’s his first fresh install in two years and the how to’s got forgotten through time.)
so don’t hesitate to ask any time again
