This plugin is present in version x32

It is NOT present in the 32-bit version of Notepad++. If you had this plugin installed and you upgraded versions then it will stay. But if someone does a fresh install of Notepad++, TextFX will not be there. I don’t think there is an official 64-bit version of TextFX so if you use 64-bit Notepad++ you will not have it and not be able to get it.

And it has NOTHING to do with Notepad++ developers, anyway.

Do not find fault with words. Everyone understood that this plugin can be installed, but only in version x32, and version x64 does not exist.

Ha. I took it as “distributed with”. I didn’t even look at the video. Now I see what is truly being asked. Sorry.

              yes it is.

text fx characters is present in the most current x86 plugins list at github.

I just tried out the following:

              • Reinstall 32 bit version of NPP (latest version, 7.6.2)
              • Opened the plugin manager
              • Indeed, TextFX Characters is present (was not present in my previous 32-bit version)
              • Selected the item and asked to install
              • NPP warned me the app would close down while/after installing the plugin and then restart.
              • NPP restarted but the plugin was not installed.
              • When I looked to the plugin manager again, the TextFX Characters plugin was again unselected.

Conclusion: I’m not able to install that plugin.

That’s a shame, since this is one of the most powerful (if not, the most powerful) plugins ever made for NPP.

It should be part of the standard installation instead of the mostly useless plugins that are currently standard. Even if it’s only on the 32 bit version.

Hope this issue will get resolved so that I can use that powerful plugin again…

                @Aristide-Vanwanzeele ,

If you are using the correct terminology – “opened the plugin manager” as opposed to “opened the Plugins Admin” – then that is your problem. The “Plugin Manager” was the plugin which handled installing plugins and was bundled with Notepad++ until v7.4.2; starting in v7.5, it was no longer bundled (see FAQ), but you could still manually install it. Starting in v7.6, the NPP developer included his own “Plugins Admin” as a builtin replacement for the “Plugin Manager”, and in the process, made the plugin directory structure incompatible with “Plugin Manager”. The developers of “Plugin Manager” have not yet upgraded it to be able to handle the new directory hierarchy, because it’s still in a state of flux.

Thus, if you are really using the “Plugin Manager” plugin, instead of using the “Plugins Admin” in v7.6.2, it will not install TextFX to a directory where Notepad++ will see that it’s there. @Meta-Chuh has lots of posts showing you the correct directory structure… but if you install it using the Plugin Admin in v7.6.2 32-bit, the TextFX should go to the right location, and be usable.

@PeterJones Thanks for the clarification. Will check that again with the correct terminology and see for the result.

If you like experiments, you might want to test
                    https://github.com/HQJaTu/NPPTextFX/blob/VS2017-x64/bin/x64/NppTextFX.dll
                    for x64.

You might have hurt several plugin developers on their hard work across the years.

Use what is useful to you, why comment about uselessness or usefulness of other plugins?

Maybe the plugins you are using and you are considering useful are not used by some other user and he/ she might term your plugin useless.

It is a free software and free plugins, we should be thankful to all developers.

                        Thanks.

                          wow,
I downloaded and moved it to new programdata location,
and it appeared in toolbar with all options.

I don’t have any text at the moment for trying out its working, but I am sure it will work as 32 bit was working. If any problem or difference it I will post here.

Thanks a gig for guiding me to it.
