    Notepad++ hangs when clicked on Styler when defining your language.

      Hi Team

      I recently started exploring the option in Notepad++ and was trying to define my own language. My plan is to highlight few specific words when I open any fine.

      Now, When I try to define my language and click on the tab “Keywords Lists” and then to Styler, the notepad++ console just hangs and does not allow me to do anything. The only option I am left with is to exit notepad++ and reopen it.

      This is what it shows in event logs.

      I tried different notepad++ versions with all plugins disabled as well . Still no luck

        welcome to the notepad++ community, @zaki-khan

        i can not reproduce this on a copy of your installed notepad++ 7.5.6, as well as on the latest 7.6.3.
        we will need more information by trying out the following on your system:

        • please download a portable notepad++ version 7.6.3 from >>> here <<< (npp.7.6.3.bin.zip)
          the portable version will not get in conflict and not modify anything of your currently installed version.

        • extract npp.7.6.3.bin.zip to a folder on your desktop.

        • open this extracted folder and run notepad++.exe by double clicking on it.

        • create a new test dummy udl and try if it still hangs, as soon as you click on any of the 8 styler buttons at the keywords lists.

          That seems to have taken care of…

          Not sure what was making the issue … I guess the only difference was I was using .exe to download and install, and it was not sitting on the desktop.

            that is a good thing.

            if you want you can now compare the differences (plugins, etc) between your new portable version 7.6.3 x86 and your old installed 7.5.6 x86 to find the problem within your old install.

            or you can keep using the portable version, as it is fully featured, and has the advantage that everything is contained inside this folder, making it possible to duplicate at will, or run a duplicate from a usb drive on any other machine.
