nppPluginList.dll disappears from plugins/config every time, plugins admin disappears also

  • …every time I install another plugin using the new plugins admin.

I am using npp+ 7.6.3 portable edition (portable apps), and, to avoid any confusion with previous versions, I did a fresh download and install (from portableapps) this morning.

After downloading, the plugins admin was initially in the menu, but after I installed the first plugin, it was gone.

I did a lot of research until I found here between many entries the hint that the plugins admin needs nppPluginList.dll.
Fortunately I could copy it from a backup copy of a previous npp version, and the plugins admin was in the menu again.
But only until I downloaded one more plugin, and nppPluginList.dll, and plugins admin, were gone again.
I also copied some plugins from my last working npp version (7.6.2) manually to the new installation, following this procedure of creating subdirectories with the same names as the plugin dll, and the behavior of the disappearing nppPluginList.dll was the same.

What is wrong with what I am doing?
Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

  • welcome to the notepad++ community, @klaus-isbruch-dieboldnixdorf

i can not reproduce this using the official portable version.

can you please download the official notepad++ 7.6.3 portable from >>> here <<<
extract it to your desktop or download folder.
important: do not put a portable version into %ProgramFiles% or %ProgramFiles(x86)%, and try to avoid putting a portable version on a network drive letter, that is not reachable from an elevated task (when run as administrator).

then start this notepad++ by double clicking on notepad++.exe inside of your_path_to\npp.7.6.3.bin\
and use the built in plugins admin to install any plugin.
(please crosscheck by also uninstalling any plugin using plugins admin of this official portable version)

please report back, regardless of your results.

  • YES, works as expected!

Thanks a lot for this ultra fast response.
I followed your recommendation and tried the npp portable version from npp, instead of using the portableapps version, and YES, indeed, YOUR version behaves nicely.

I will continue to use the npp-portable version from now on, and I will talk to portableapps to let them know this issue.
    Thank you very much again.

  • @klaus-isbruch-dieboldnixdorf

thanks for reporting back so quickly too ;-)

glad you got it working using the official portable version.
it is always recommended to use the official portable version only, as it is created by the developers, implementing all their own recent code changes.

all other 3rd party releases might miss some code changes when packaging, leading to unexpected behaviour.

you can always download the latest official portable versions from here:
    (choose the zip package)
