        patient: doctor, doctor, my leg hurts if i press here.
        doctor: then don’t press here. 😉

        @Pino-Insegna

        we need some more information from you, to be of assistance:

        what was the size of the .nfo file ?
        was it a text .nfo or a windows system information .nfo ?
        did you try to open a .nfo file from windows explorer right-click on file > open with notepad++,
        or from the notepad++ file > open menu ?

        please also provide us with your debug information by going to the notepad++
        menu: ? > debug info... > copy debug info into clipboard and paste this information here.

          Not a joke! When I open these files with Notepad++ hangs tightly! And no matter what size *.nfo files. I faced it many years ago.

            I was gonna do the same thing, except with elbow movement back and forth…but then I realized that N++ shouldn’t “crash” no matter what it is “fed”. :)

              strange, 7.6.3. x86 and x64 open all .nfo files without any problem, as seen at the screenshot below.

              do you have any test .nfo file for me ?
              if it’s small enough, you could also paste it here.
              this intrigues me.

              true, but it does not crash, at least not for me.
              none of my setups crashes when opening .nfo files smaller than appx 320mb (x86) to 2gb (x64).
              win7, 10, mac, ubuntu, 7.5.5 - 7.6.4 x86 and x64
              even if it is too big, it does not crash for me, it presents me with the usual file too big alert.

                This happens when there are graphics in this file. Once can open the file …and then every discovery collapses!

                    strange, even with graphics it works and does not crash with all .nfo files i have found and tested.
                    even a search or count works as expected.

                    what am i doing wrong … or better to say, what am i doing right ? ;-)

                        Hi all users,
                        I use Notepad++ x86 and I just discovered that was HexEditor plugin that causes the crash.
                        I’m disappointed because it is very useful

                          ahhhhh, thank you for reporting that.

                          i have already forgotten why hexedit got completely ditched from the stable list and why it is removed (disabled) on every update.

                          my apologies for not remembering this, and again many thanks for sharing.

                            @Pino-Insegna and all

                            ps: @chcg occasionally plays around improving JensLorenz’s old original HexEdit code over >>> here <<<.

                            i’ve just installed @chcg 's HexEdit version 0.9.5.19 (x64) on notepad++ 7.6.4 and i’m still able to open, search, and hexview, any .nfo file, without any issues.

                            can someone confirm or disprove this ?
