    Greetings!

    I do a lot of file comparison, and when comparing two files, I would like to rename the tab with something that would let me know what are the contents of that tab. For example I have two files to compare: X and Y. I would like to double click on tab “New 1” and a little box would appear and I would type X, and now what was once “New 1”, now has X. And then, I would like to double click on tab “New 2” and rename it to Y. So, now I know which version is where. This will make my life so much easier. :-) Thanks.

    josé

      Right click on the tab and “rename” … it does not suit you?

        note: if you can’t find the option to rename an unsaved New [x] tab, please update to notepad++ 7.6.6.
        (this feature is only available on notepad++ 7.6.4 and above)

        saludos

          This is a very handy popup!

          But when the file is saved,
          Rename = Save As
          … Or am I wrong?

            no.
            the option rename also gives a saved file a new name.
            the old file name will no longer be accessible after renaming.

            the option save as will save the content of this saved tab to a second file with the given filename.
            the original file will still be available at the original location with the old file name.

              @Meta-Chuh
              I wanted to tell about the view of the window itself to rename (the saved file), to rename the file it would be better to rename the window (as in the new, not saved tab)
