I have noticed with Notepad++ that it is not as easy to select text as it is with Notepad or other text editors that I have tried.
For example: I tend to miss when copying and pasting, unless I make sure that I am completely over the text, where with others, I don’t have to be so accurate.

Is there a setting in Notepad++ to adjust this?

    Many thanks. :)

I think you should describe your issue more thoroughly. What do you mean with

unless I make sure that I am completely over the text

A starting point could be how you select text. By mouse or by keyboard?

And what do you mean with

where with others, I don’t have to be so accurate.

However, I’m pretty sure there is currently no setting that can configure the required precision of selection actions.

        Thanks for your reply, dink.

It simply requires more accuracy than any other text editor that I have used.
I constantly miss where with other text editors, I don’t.

But if there is no possibility of changing this, then my question is a lost cause.

        Take care. :)

So, sure, the easiest thing is to just give up. Which apparently you did.

If someone really wanted help with this, they would:

          • answer the questions @dinkumoil put to you
          • maybe provide a screen recording(s) of the selecting the same text in Notepad++ versus other programs that you say are “better” in regards to your complaint (this way perhaps helpers here could see how “sloppy” you can be in other programs versus N++).

Really, you have to give something in order to get something back. But, it depends upon how much effort you want to go to.

TBH, my first thought was that maybe your font size is too small. You can temporarily make it bigger (to try it out) by using ctrl+mousewheel or see the View menu’s Zoom submenu. This might make it easier to select text with the mouse, at least.

Let me guess, when selecting text with the mouse and immediately
clicking the right mouse button once the end of the selection has
reached, it might happen that the selection is gone and the context menu
            displays without having copy/paste enabled.
But as said, only a guess that this is what the OP refers to.

@Ekopalypse said in Difficulty Selecting Text:

I can duplicate this behavior, but I’ve never noticed it. Probably because my workflow is to release the left mouse button and then move the mouse slightly to be sure to be within the selected text area, and only then clicking the right mouse button.

Is this a “time thing” (from your reference to “immediately”)? Or do you think it might be a “mouse position thing” (possibly what part of the final character of the selection is being pointed at when the right click is initiated)? I lean toward it being a “mouse position” thing…

                @Alan-Kilborn

Yes, I think this is a mouse pointing thing which, btw., SciTe does as well.
Not sure how easy it would be for npp to handle this differently and
yes, I never noticed this as well. :-)
