      Hi all, can someone tell me what the latest version of N++ was where it stored all the plugins and config files in Program Files and not Appdata or Programdata on Win7

      thx

        v7.5.9 was the last “modern” Notepad++ to use the original structure for plugins, which I think is what you were getting at.

        Storing anything in Programdata was only done briefly in the early v7.6-era, and by v7.6.3 was abandoned.

        But the most recent, v7.8.4, doesn’t store plugins themselves in AppData (or Programdata) – it just stores the user-modified plugin config files there. But, IIRC, that’s what v7.5.9 did as well. So I’m not sure why the most recent version isn’t sufficient for you.

        If you can explain how v7.8.4 doesn’t meet your expectations or needs in regard to plugin location, maybe we can help you.

          Apparently 7.5.9 did not survive the webhost switch. So 7.5.6 is the most recently easily-available version with the old plugins structure.

            Hi thx for the replay, to answer your question, its not that the latest version is not sufficient i just like having a portable program store everything in one place so when i decide to put it on a USB it would save me time by not having to go trough various folders just to copy my settings and configurations and then copy them again at a new pc, by having them all in folder it;s easier for me nothing more

              The zip file download is the “portable” edition. Unzip to your folder or USB drive, and it will store and run everything in whatever directory you want.

              (The portable/zip version has been available for as long as I can remember; I’ve got a copy of the Notepad++ v4.0 zipfile/portable edition from 2007.)

                True but when it resides in “C:\Program Files\Notepad++” every config files is copied to Appdata and tha’s what i want to avoid, just now i’am testing the version you suggested and no luck again, every config files is stored in appdata even when using the zip version, iknow i can run it from somewhere other than Program Files but i like keeping it there,so i guess 6.9 32bit is the last version that meets my requirements

                  It’s up to you… but when it comes down to a decision between “I like keeping it there” and “my requirements”, I’d choose requirements over desires, but maybe that’s just me.

                      So…put it (the portable version) somewhere else?

                          @sick13

                          Well, typically C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) are “controlled” folders. On my (work) PC, I can’t even access them. This may be in your future as well, so maybe better get over the OCD about it. Obviously, as you’ve discovered, Notepad++ even treats them specially.

                          OT but BTW, I can’t even access the root of my C: drive because I don’t have permission to do so, so a quick and easy command-line of whatevercommand >c:\x.txt won’t even work for me. :-( Yea, it sucks but it is the world we live in now. Computers used to belong to the people. No longer. I can make folders off of this location, however, just not files.

                            You got that right, now on my pc i;ts only me so i just don’t understand why n++ was made like this not allowing you to write in Program Files [probably a good reason i am sure] but at least devs could have made an option for people who want full control over a program or something like that
