VS Code has really nice extension ‘indent-rainbow’(~800k installations)
“This extension colorizes the indentation in front of your text alternating four different colors on each step”. Really helps to improve readability.

      alt text
It would be nice if Notepad++ could support such function also

            [Plugin request] indent-rainbow

There really isn’t such a thing as a “Plugin request”.

There IS such a thing as an official feature request for Notepad++ itself.
To be seen by anyone that could implement it, you’d have to follow THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

BTW, what happens if you have more indentations than 4; does the “rainbow” just repeat the same 4 colors again?

Dear @Alan-Kilborn, strange thing, but on github I was told that proper place to submit such request is this forum.
I hope it was not some kind of joke, but some misunderstanding of how such requests should be handled and this request was close by mistake.

It appears you are talking about THIS.

What I told you earlier here was in regards to feature requests for the standard product (requests for things to be implemented inside Notepad++ itself). Apparently the N++ dev folks on github decided that this is best implemented as plugin functionality. And indeed, you sort of steered that direction with the title of this thread!

Regardless, I guess I steered you wrong, I shouldn’t have directed you to “github” for this request. My bad.

I think they directed you back here because (a) they didn’t know you’d been here first, and (b) they thought this was the best way for you to get someone capable of writing such a plugin interested in doing so.

Also, understand that the “github forum” and this forum really don’t have a lot in common; not staffed by the same people, so there’s going to be a bit of a disconnect between the two.

Well I certainly lack that power. :-)

How about learning to write the plugin yourself?

I will certainly will give it a try, but it will be not honest if you just close this request and will not give such chance to other enthusiasts who wish to contribute to Notepad++

                    Nobody is “closing any request”.
Oh, well maybe on github they did.
But it appears that was all well-explained to you.
And I thought it was already well-explained to you that this forum and the github issues site are two different things with two different staffs.
Maybe you just refuse to accept?
