Changing the focus from Function List panel to the main editor, and vice-versa
-
Hi everyone,
I would like to know if there is a keyboard shortcut to change the focus from a side panel (e.g., Function List, Document Map, etc…) to the main editor window, and vice-versa (i.e., back from the main editor window to the Function List, for example).
I could not find a similar shortcut in the shortcut mapper. The ‘F8’ shortcut returns to the previous view but does not allow for alternating between open side panels and the main window.
Is there a keyboard shortcut or a plugin to do this, please? If not, is there a tutorial to add this functionality to N++?
Thank you very much in advance!

Afaik,
ALT+W+W+ENTERworks most of the time. (I know in document map it doesn’t) -

Maybe better said as
Alt+wthenwthenEnter. -

FWIW, it doesn’t work in my setup, though ALT+N, then N then Enter works. In other words, take into account that it’s language dependant.
Have Fun!

Hello, @captain-shepard and **All,
Here is a non-exhaustive table of the ways to switch from a panel to the main editor window and vice-versa
I surely forgot some obvious ways ! For instance, modifying a localization file in order to use the
Alt + Lettermethod•---------------------------------------•-----------------------------•------------------------------------------------------• | Panel | From Panel to Main Editor | From Main Editor to Panel | •---------------------------------------•-----------------------------•------------------------------------------------------• | | | | | Project | Window key, twice | Click on Panel's title | | | | | | Folder as Workspace | Window key, twice | Click on Panel's title | | | | | | Function list | Window key, twice | Click on Panel's title | | | | | | Character panel | Window key, twice | Click on Panel's title or hit a User Shortcut | | | | | | Clipboard History | Window key, twice | Click on Panel's title or hit a User Shortcut | | | | | | Incremental search | Window key, twice | ALt + Ctrl + I | | | | | | Find Result | F7 | F7 | | | | | | Find / Replace/ Find in Files/ Mark | Alt + Tab | Ctrl + F / Ctrl + H / Shift + Ctrl + F / Ctrl + M | | | | | | Go to | Alt + Tab | Ctrl + G | •---------------------------------------•-----------------------------•------------------------------------------------------•Best Regards,

I’m confused about the
Alt+Tabones.
For me this switches apps, not windows within an app… -
The
Alt+Tabmay have been a Windows change at some point. IIRC, @guy038 still uses WinXP, and it may be that Microsoft allowedAlt+Tabto work with sub-dialogs in a version from that long ago; I don’t remember. But I can confirm with my Win10 thatAlt+Tabwill not take you from the Find dialog back to the main NPP window. -

I have no specific memories of WinXP as it has been close to a decade since I used it, but it seems like
Alt+Tabhas pretty much always been an “app switcher” in Windows?@guy038 still uses WinXP
Guy should have a “Donate” button for when he provides regex help. Get himself a new Win10 capable box very quickly. :-)

Hi, @captain-shepard, @peterjones, @alan-kilborn and All,
Ah… OK ! So, certainly, the
Alt + Tabcombination must beWin XPspecific !For instance, let suppose I’ve just opened Notepad++ and the Calc software, on my
Win XPlaptop :-
Hit
CTRL + F=> TheFinddialog opens -
Hit
Alt + Tab=> Focus is now on the Main Editor -
Hit
CTRL + F, again => TheFinddialog is back, on the foreground -
Hit
Alt + Tab=> Focus is back , again, on the Main Editor -
Hit
Alt + Tab, again =>Calc.exeis selected -
Hit
Alt + Tab, a last time =>Notepad++.exeis selected and focus is , again, on the main editor window, with theFinddialog in the background
Alan, you’re teasing me, but you’re right! I’m almost ashamed ! So
2021should be a big year — for me — with a brand-newWin 10laptop !BR

2021 ??
You really need a gofundme.
All these slackers/takers that have milked you for regexes over the years should be hounded up and asked to donate.
You’d surely get your new laptop before 2020 is out. -
Hello, @Alan-kilborn and All,
In fact, I feel a bit silly because because I just flew over your idea, Alan and my answer really needs to be understood in the first degree :
At no time did I want to suggest that people should donate to help me get a new laptop !
I just wanted to say that it was time to stop bothering, you all, with my old
Win XPmachine and that it was urgent for me to change times ! ( probably for Christmas )I know…, I must have already said that, last year ;-)))
Cheers,

Of course not; all my idea.
Nobody interpreted it as you with your hand out.
At least I don’t think so.
I’ll cease with the joking around as perhaps it is making you feel awkward; apologies.
