Plugins installed but MIA

  • I have two computers, one Windows 7 and the other Windows 10, with same version of Notepad++ and basically same set of plugins/versions installed in both. On my Windows 7 computer, JSON Viewer, XML Treeview and NppFTP are all MIA in the Plugins menu, although Plugin Manager recognizes their installation and says they are good. I could bear to do without NppFTP — never actually used it, and probably not likely to — but the other two I’d like to have working. I don’t think it’s an issue with the respective plugins, since they work on my Windows 10 machine, but maybe something to do with Windows 7? It wouldn’t be the first apparent NPP/Windows 7 anomaly I’ve encountered. (Other one here.) If anybody has any ideas, suggestions or similar experience with same or other plugins, I’d love to hear from you.

    Note that the three misbehaving plugins don’t appear there either.

    There’s your problem. Plugin Manager has been incompatible with Notepad++ since Notepad++ v7.6. You are using Notepad++ v7.8.9, so Plugin Manager will not work.

    The correct tool for managing plugins for the last two years, and continuing into the foreseeable future, is the builtin Plugins Admin entry in the Plugins menu. Uninstall the out-of-date Plugin Manager from any machine that has Notepad++ newer than v7.6.

    Use the modern Plugins Admin tool for managing your plugins, and the plugins will actually be available to you.

    I’ve now deleted PluginManager.dll and its associated folder, but after restarting NPP, I see no Plugins Admin entry in my Plugins menu, nor anywhere else. The only non-plugin-specific entry is Open Plugins Folder…

    And the three MIA plugins remain so.
